Maintenance tips
The BK Dutch Oven is oven safe up to 260C. Never cool down your pan quickly, let it cool gradually to avoid damaging the enamel. Never let a pan boil dry. To avoid damage, don’t scratch the pan with sharp or pointed objects which can cause burning and discoloring. To prevent damage to the enamel, do not beat spoons heavily on the rim of the pan. Don’t use metal pan cleansers, scouring powders or other abrasive substances. Use a safe cleaning liquid to remove any spots or stains. For burnt-on food, boil water in the pan with a baking soda solution and leave to stand for some time before washing away. Wash in hot water with dish soap and a sponge, then rinse and dry thoroughly, especially along the stainless steel edge. Dishwasher safe.
Using BK enamel
Always set the gas flame so that it stays completely under the bottom of your pan. Always use the burner that best fits the diameter of your pan. This saves energy by ensuring you’re using your heat source as efficiently as possible. You can also avoid unnecessary energy loss by adjusting the temperature of your heat source to continue cooking at a lower setting. Always make sure you have enough butter or oil to cover the whole of the pan surface when frying or roasting. Use wooden or heat resistant cooking utensils during cooking to help prevent damaging the enamel layer. The handles may become warm during cooking, so you should always use oven gloves. Never place a hot pan directly on your counter or table; use a placemat. Don’t slide you pan over a burnerso as to avoid scratches to the pan or the burner itself.
BLACK
STEEL
READY TO USE
Before first use
Wash off the prospective wax glaze with hot soapy water and a sponge. Dry thoroughly before using. After washing, this pre-seasoned pan is ready to go!
Maintenance tips
Heat the pan and pour in the oil or butter. Don’t overheat the pan. Use hot running water and a sponge or scrub brush to clean. Dry immediately. Rub with a little oil before storing to boost the natural non-stick layer. For tough, burnt-on messes you can scrub the pan with salt and paper towels. Never soak the pan or put that in the dishwasher!
HOW TO RE-SEASON YOUR BLACK STEEL
STEP 1
Pour a little oil (any oil suitable for frying, vegetable or canola oil recommended) into the pan and swirl it around.
STEP 2
Heat the pan until the oil starts to smoke. Ensure good ventilation while the oil is smoking.
STEP 3
Use paper towels to remove the oil. Repeat this process two or three times. You will notice that the pan discolours, which is a good sign. This process creates a natural nonstick coating.
STEP 4
Take the pan off the stove and carefully remove excess oil with paper towels.
STEP 5
Allow the pan to cool. Clean the pan with hot water and a sponge.
STEP 6
Dry the pan thoroughly before storing it.
